Historians have confirmed that Quinta do Síbio
was planted around the same time as the foundation of Real Companhia Velha (1756).
In the hands of the Jordão family until 1934, Real Companhia Vinícola
of the North of Portugal then purchased it.
Situated in the Ronção
valley (famous for its excellent wines), it has South and West exposures ranging
in altitude between 90 and 340 meters. The orientation of the vineyard dictated
by the natural curves of the slope with narrow terraces supported by un-cemented
schist walls produces a naturally "creased or folded" effect on the
property.
In order to permit mechanisation, the reconversion of the vineyard began in December
1999. It encompasses the rebuilding and preservation of the bicentenary walls
exactly as they were built. This landed property improvement, unique in the region,
contributes to the reaffirmation of the "Douro, world heritage site of UNESCO".
Currently with 8 hectars of planted vineyard, with the varieties Touriga Nacional,
Touriga Francesa, Tinta Cão, Tinta Amarela and the rare Sousão,
Tinta Francisca, and Donzelinho Tinto (all planted separately), the reconversion
will finish when all twelve hectars of walled terraces are completed. |
