Located at 50 meters above sea level on the left
bank of the Douro River, in Pinhão, Corval is a small Quinta of 2,5 hectars.
It was completely restructured in 2001.
Maintaining the original grade and parcel distribution and preserving the old schist walls, the highly
deteriorated vineyard was replanted with a clonal selection of Touriga Nacional.
Utilising a spacing of 1,8 by 0,9 meters with mechanised access, 8900 vines of
the noblest variety of the region were planted in order to achieve a high density
that would counter the characteristic vigor of Touriga Nacional.
This combined structure maintains the traditional aspect of a stone filled vineyard
and makes Quinta do Corval one of the best Douro examples of how to modernise
while maintaining tradition. |
