Since the 1860's the Quinta dos Aciprestes
has been a conglomeration of several Quintas. The original Quinta
- called dos Cyprestes - was founded in the eighteenth century by
Dom José de Seabra, one of the ministers of Queen Dona Maria
I, and owned by his successors, the Viscounts da Baía.
Today the Quinta dos Aciprestes stretches for more than 2 Km along the south bank
of Douro river at Tua area.
Easily identified by the six cyprus trees which stand near the Quinta
house and by the ondulating, prairie-like character of the landscape,
arising from the absence of traditional terraces, a high proportion
of the Quinta is mechanised as a result of the recent transformation
that converted almost 90% of the vineyards into new vertical plantations.
